Thermal Conductivity of BAs under Pressure

نویسندگان

چکیده

The thermal conductivity of boron arsenide (BAs) is believed to be influenced by phonon scattering selection rules due its special dispersion. Compression BAs leads significant changes in dispersion, which allows for a test first principles theories how dispersion affects three- and four-phonon rates. This study reports the from 0 30 GPa. Thermal vs. pressure measured time-domain thermoreflectance with diamond anvil cell. In stark contrast what typical nonmetallic crystals, observed have independent below crystals typically increases upon compression. unusual independence shows important relationship between properties

Effect of mass disorder on the lattice thermal conductivity of MgO periclase under pressure

Thermal conductivity of mantle materials controlling the heat balance and thermal evolution of the Earth remains poorly constrained as the available experimental and theoretical techniques are limited in probing minerals under the relevant conditions. We report measurements of thermal conductivity of MgO at high pressure up to 60 GPa and 300 K via diamond anvil cells using the time-domain therm...

Polar effects on the thermal conductivity of cubic boron nitride under pressure.

We report the lattice thermal conductivity (κ) of cubic boron nitride (c-BN) under pressure calculated using density functional theory. Pressure was used to manipulate the c-BN phonon dispersion and study its effect on thermal conductivity. These results were compared to c-BN's mass-equivalent, nonpolar counterpart, diamond, in order to isolate the effect of polar bonds on thermal conductivity....

Thermal conductivity reduction of crystalline silicon by high-pressure torsion

We report a dramatic and irreversible reduction in the lattice thermal conductivity of bulk crystalline silicon when subjected to intense plastic strain under a pressure of 24 GPa using high-pressure torsion (HPT). Thermal conductivity of the HPT-processed samples were measured using picosecond time domain thermoreflectance. Thermal conductivity measurements show that the HPT-processed samples ...

Transport Properties of Refrigerant Mixtures: Thermal Conductivity

In the present work, the integral equations method is used to calculate transport properties of polar fluids. For this goal, we use the Stockmayer potential and examine theoretically the thermal conductivity of several refrigerant mixtures such as R125+R134a, R125+R32, R125+R152a, R134a+R32, R152a+R32, R134a+R143a, and R125+R143a. We solve numerically the Ornstein-Zernike (OZ) equation usin...

Thermal Conductivity of Nanofluids

Nanofluids are suspensions of nanoparticles in base fluids, a new challenge for thermal sciences provided by nanotechnology. Nanofluids have unique features different from conventional solid-liquid mixtures in which mm or μm sized particles of metals and non-metals are dispersed. Due to their excellent characteristics, nanofluids find wide applications in enhancing heat transfer. Research work ...
